A new redesign

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Just a couple of months after I decided to do a redesign, I’ve done it again.

I was simply tired of the interface, and decided to go with a trustworthy Wordpress installation. Please see the new redesign, while it lasts, I’m already considering redesigning it again.

The new design is much more pleasant to the eye and loads so much faster.

We even added a new jokes category and there are more to follow. We hope you enjoy it! :)

Saving bandwith and CPU with caching

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

After getting a bit of success with the site, I found it necessary to implement a caching system and after a bit of researching, I found a brilliant piece of code by Dave Child, and that script has greatly reduced the punishment I was putting my server through.

The script can be found here, and it is really easy to implement in your PHP code.

Status for 2007

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

I started www.very-funny-videos.com on July 8th 2007, with 3 visitors that day. December 21st 2007 was the record day so far, with 974 visitors in total. Overall in 2007, I have served 268 visitors (on average) per day.

All in all, not bad for about 6 months of running.

On December 19th 2007, the amount of visitors increased dramatically, and I went from about 150 visitors in average per day to just over 500 (see the graphics above).

In the top 10 on Google!

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

I’ve started to notice a few visits from the keyword I was targeting “very funny videos“, and at the time of writing this, I have reached the 10th place on Google for this search term!

This proves that good SEO and patience will help you in your quest for good rankings.

Taking a traffic hit

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

These days we’re taking a traffic hit. We have been rising too fast, and gaining too much traffic too quickly.

Our Google Analytics account still track a 56.44% increase compared to the previous 30 days, so we are doing fine in total, but the daily number of visits have declined somewhat.

(The blue bar is the previous 30 days, and the green line represents -60 to -30 days ago, giving us a better understanding of the trend over the last two months).

We’re working on a redesign for one of our sister-sites, and we are very excited to see the effects that might have. Every day we learn new things on what we are doing right, and what we are doing wrong.

New stats - big increase

Monday, August 20th, 2007

Today I am happy to announce a new big increase in the stats.

We now recieve an average of 532 visitors per day where yesterday was the most well-visited day so far with 895 unique visitors.

August 20th stats

The graph is increasing nicely, with more and more visitors coming in to our site. 82% comes from search engine traffic, where the keywords “dragonflabe” and “spider pig song” are the two highest ranking keywords.

I am a few days short of 30 days from my last report, http://blog.very-funny-videos.com/stats-up-to-july-22nd, but I just had to share this.

I wonder where we will be 30 days from now?

New site launched in the network

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

We have now launched a new site in the network, Best Very Funny Videos

The plan is to launch a fleet of humour sites, and this is the first sibling of the mothersite, www.very-funny-videos.com

Currently, the design is very much identical, but the idea is to set up the design individually for each site, yet this does not have a very high priority.

We welcome the new site to the network!

Stats up to July 22nd

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

Today was a happy occasion when I loaded up my Google Analytics account to see what amount of visitors we recieve.

jul22stats.jpg
July 22nd was so far the best day, where we received 187 visitors.  We still have a long time to go to where we want to be, but it shows that a well-picked domain name, good programming, solid SEO planning ahead and a range of tricks actually helps! All traffic you can see above in the graph is purely organic traffic, and it is over the last 14 days. I wonder how the stats will look in a month, when we finish our programming and start rolling out our sister sites.

The images are back

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

We had a slight error in the setup earlier this week, where the content of the image-folder was accidently deleted.

All new visitors that did not have the graphics in their cache of their web browser could not see the layout of our site, but we have now fixed the error, and are back in business.
